Makahuena Resort is perched on a rocky point above the ocean in Poipu. This unit has ocean views and access to the pool, tennis courts, hot tub and BBQs. The property is within an 8-10 minute walk to the beach.

Amazing Sunrise and Sunset Ocean Views!

Great location with amazing sunrise and sunset ocean views! Sunset is viewable on the lanai, and sunrise is an easy paved walk within the small Makahuena community to the benches. There is also a gate that will take you out to the public walking path to see the lava arch (2 min), walk to Shipwreck beach (15 min) to see the monk seal, and hike the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail, where you will be rewarded with more amazing views of the ocean side cliffs and mountains! Brennecke beach (great for boogie boarding) and Poipu beach (large sea turtles) was also a short drive away. The property was easy to access since it was right off the main entrance and provided plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear, beach towels, and beach toys. The beds were comfortable, and the decor was just right. A/C units are available in each of the bedrooms, but it was noisy for sleeping so we had the fans on at night instead. The main living area was warmer since A/C isn't available throughout the unit, but it was a comfortable temperature with the ceiling fans. The main shared bathroom had an odor; otherwise, no issues with 5 people showering back-to-back after a day at the beach as long as the last person is ok with a cooler shower. Large washer and dryer came in handy with detergent provided. We didn't use the TV (at first glance, it didn't appear straightforward to use) since we were out and about most of the day. It was also a short drive to The Shops at Kukui'ula and Old Koloa Town for food and shopping. Lihue airport is about 30 minutes away, and the Costco near the airport is a great place to pick up Hawaiian snacks (lots of local snack choices like giant furikake shrimp chips that we don't get on the mainland), Hawaiian shirts and sarongs, and sushi (we had a sample of the crunch roll deluxe and decided to grab one). Don't forget to grab your Hawaiian donuts early because the bakeries are near Lihue and are closed SUN / MON. Those that are open run out of malasadas by 8AM!

This was a great apartment. It is just as pictured. It is close to the beach and several restaurants. Only complaint is there is no air conditioner in the living spaces. Needs a new fan to blow cooler air from the master bedroom into the living room. The host was very responsive and accommodating.

Vrbo screwed up. We put in request for 3Bdrm/3bath; they gave us 3/2! We sent in rental agreement that didn't say anything about bdrms or baths. No contact from Vrbo. Later we saw online the property was 3/2, called Vrbo who said responses were "automatic" but we never received them and they couldn't be resent So... we were stuck w/ 3/2 for 3 couples.

Walked in & thought ok, a bit old & dingy. Right away they said they couldn’t do anything about the super dirty floors but then came in and remopped and was waaay better. Also they changed out two incredibly noisy fans with new ones! Beds were too soft but Really really enjoyed our stay!!!

Experience was great. The condo was located in the perfect place, just a 15-minute walk to the beach my son was married on. Beautiful views, great pool for kids. Only had two small issues, 1 the floors were dirty. We were happy to go without shoes, but did not expect to have dirty feet as a result. Also I hope the glass sink bowl that we reported our first day has been fixed by now as it leaked and was causing water damage to cabinet below. Other than those two minor issues we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

What an amazing stay! They had everything you needed from bath essentials to kitchenware. And of course, the ocean view from the balcony was gorgeous! Every morning, the balcony was the meeting spot! It was clean, comfortable, and a convenient location. It was a little warm since there wasn’t AC, but nothing all the fans and fresh air couldn’t take care of. A portable AC unit could come in handy though! A few lights were out in the kitchen, but it didn’t bother us too much. We would definitely book this place again. :)

Beautiful apartment. Everything looked exactly as pictured and was very spacious. There isn't AC and at times the rooms can get stuffy but having extra fans in the rooms helped. The pool and hot tub were both beautiful and clear and a short walk to see amazing sunsets. The beach wasn't too far either. Short drive.
This host definitely has everything prepared for you and has plenty of the usual household things you won't need to buy.

We loved the location, great kitchen, lanai, beach things like towels, boogie boards and chairs in the condo. The pool and hot tub are close by. A few small things. The floor was a little dirty when we got there, and the headboards on the twin beds are loose and creak, maybe time for new ones. Also please replace the bath mat in each bathroom with something not slippery. We loved our trip to Poipu and Kauai.

The property was beautiful, spacious and looks just like the pictures. It comfortably fit the 5 of us without feeling like we were tripping over each other. We did have major issues with the front door and struggled getting inside several times. We also started with incorrect Wi-if information and the TV remotes didn’t work either at first until we contacted the property manager. One other thing to keep in mind is that there is no A/C, so be prepared to be warm at night, especially if you’re staying in the summer months. Overall though it was nice!

My family of five had a great time in July at Poipu 365. The place was just like it was described. Very clean with a great pool area and really nice Bar-B-Q's. You could see plenty of sea turtles right from the resort grassy areas. No A/C'S but plenty of box and ceiling fans which along with the ocean breeze made it comfortable. Great snorkeling just over the hill for all ages at Poipu beach park. The front door is quite tricky to open, but other than that the place was great. Can't wait to go back!

We just finished one week in 2303. It was a great visit. Condo is clean and in good condition. We especially appreciated the lanai as it has such wonderful views. We saw whales and sunsets every day! We used the condo as a converging place for our scattered family to celebrate an early Christmas. The place is clean and all appliances worked. For our family vacation this unit was ideal for our needs. It easily accommodated four adults and two kids in a very spacious unit with an ocean view. The unit was clean, comfortable and filled with all the basic neccesities for island life. On our part, we overlooked the lack of AC. The property management team was very responsive and accommodating. The property is easy to get in and out of to the neighboring areas or a good staging area for trips all over the island. We’d stay here again if given the chance.

This was a comfortable, clean, updated rental.

Three bedrooms, no A/C but the evenings were cool and the area was quiet so I didn't mind the open windows.

A nice pool and hot tub in the courtyard, we spent an evening out by the pool watching the sky get dark while the kids splashed in the water.

The balcony provided a beautiful view for the sunsets in October, and the short path to the cliffs along the Pacific gave a stunning sunset and shoreline view.

Fourth stay in Poipu and this was as good as any. Condo was clean, well stocked kitchen, lovely view and perfect location. Proximity to walking trail was a bonus I was unaware of, but used daily.
Only drawback was when we went out for an early morning walk and accidentally locked ourselves out. Our fault, no question about it. When we called the emergency number given we were told it would be mid day before she could respond.

We all enjoyed our stay at Makahuena 2203. They had everything we needed and more. The entire place was so well equipped with all the necessities for pool, beach, and especially kitchen with all kinds of utensils and appliances. Beds are comfortable. The seating and view from the lanai is priceless. Enjoyed viewing sunsets, sunrises, and waves crashing onto the rocks from the lawn area of the complex, which is literally a two-minute walk. After many stays at Makahuena over the years, this 2nd floor 3-BR unit is one of our favorites. Good airflow due to its location, nice view to see our family in the pool. Clean and in good shape. Strong wifi. Beautiful location. A little noisy next to stairs when there are several families going to and from third floor units. The Poipu Athletic Club access was nice; one of our group used it every day. I recommend it!

The rental was great location, Ocean Views, Close to Beach. Main living area nice. No A/C, only 2 fans to use in all three rooms. Evening time No air flow when front door is shut. Recommend another fan, Ceiling Fans in dining area and Master do not go past slow.
Only comment I have is the Option for the Fitness Center fee that was optional for those facilities; which are not that close by. We were charged and never used $12 daily. I will use this location again in my near future.

Over the condo was a great place to stay - it is in a great spot for gorgeous ocean views. The pool is really nice and we used the BBQ almost every night. It's very quiet and peaceful. The kitchen in the apartment is nice and the bedrooms are spacious. I loved that there were buckets, spades, beach towels, etc. for us to use. A few things to note: there is no AC in the condo so the master bedroom gets pretty hot during the day. The condo wasn't all-over clean when we arrived - the floor was a bit on the dirty side so I had to do a lot of spot cleaning before letting our toddler run around. And the beaches, whilst walkable, are a bit further than we thought. It is more like a 20 minute walk to Poipu Beach and much of the road does not have a sidewalk which was tough for us with an infant and toddler. Other than that we had a great stay and would definitely recommend to other families.

We found this location to be an ideal spot. Close to Brenekes Beach where we boogie boarded every afternoon as well as Poipu for snorkling. You could hear the waves crash 100 yards away and we even had the pleasure of seeing a pod of dolphins right from the patio. There is an ocean view to the left and to the right. Located just outside the property was a nice walking path to a lookout which was a great spot for a cup of joe and watching the sun rise. Nice and spacious, and stocked with all your vacation needs.

This condo provided views to the ocean and the pool and was a very good launching pad for viewing all that Kauai had to offer. There were some maintenance issues (sliding screen doors, the twin beds needed to be attached more securely, the dishwasher broke) however, the property management company dealt with it promptly. There is a large construction site next door, however, our unit was not noisy. It's a relaxing and beautiful place to stay.

This was our 2nd trip to Poipu but our first time staying at the Makahuena. The photos do not do this property justice - it is much better than the photos! We were pleasantly suprised by the great view and proximity to the ocean and the spacious unit. The unit itself is in great condition and the furniture, kitchen supplies etc. were all very good quality and clean. There were plenty of beach supplies and towels available as well, which was helpful. Because we have been to Poipu before and we knew where we wanted to stay we were very happy with the location. However, first time guests should know that there is a walk of a few blocks to get to either of the nearby beaches.

The only negatives related to the building overall and not this unit - the hot tub at the pool was out of service for 5 of the 7 days we were there, which was a big disappointment. There is also a very large construction site next door which at times was very loud. Nonetheless, we will plan to look up this property again the next time we are in Poipu.

This was great base for our vacation to Kauai. The apartment was clean, well-stocked/furnished, and in an excellent location to explore the island. The rooms were very comfortable and there was plenty of space for our families (4 adults/2 kids). Everyone enjoyed watching whales and dolphins from the lanai in the morning. The complex itself was very relaxed, the other guests and residents were friendly, and the amenities (pool, BBQ) were great. The nightly sunsets were spectacular and great ritual to end the day. The location is ideal and only a short distance from good shopping and food options (we liked Kalapaki Joe's for happy hour and early dinner with the kids and the Hyatt for a romantic drink after dark). Poipu beach (10-15 min walk) was one of our favorite places to visit with great swimming for kids, snorkeling for adults (lots of turtles) and spotting local wildlife on the beach (turtles and monk seals). We would definitely stay at Makahuena again!

This is a great location for a visit to Kauai after being there for a week this is the place to be. The Makahuena 2-203 is equipped well with everything needed to have a great time. The Snorkel gear is mismatched and mostly smaller sizes so we just rented for the week which was easy and reasonable. The other beach gear chairs, coolers, boogie boards and fishing poles worked well. Beach access is a 10 min walk either way to the two different beaches. Shipwreck beach is by the Marriott this beach is less protected great for boogie boarding with bigger waves but a little rocky you will want water shoes. The other is Poipu beach this is a awesome family beach better for swimming and snorkeling great sand and well protected. We drove to both beaches it was a quick few minutes we found it a lot easier with all the gear. The complex is older but this unit has been re done and is in good shape the location is close to the pool and parking for easy access.We were there in May the weather was great, the beds are comfortable and the fans kept it nice and cool. This unit has a screed front door that works great. During the day we could open the front door for maximum air flow. The unit is close to the ocean and with the windows open you can hear the waves crashing on the rocks. The kitchen has a great assortment of cooking equipment though some has been well used. The Condo is part of a small complex it is quiet and well kept. The drive to the Airport is maybe 25 min, The drive up to the north side is maybe 1 1/2 hours. Getting around was easy and enjoyable. Our visit was flawless this was a great trip and will defiantly look to stay in this same unit again next time we visit.

The suite was well maintained and well stocked, and the complex didn't feel too busy, pool included! The pool was excellently maintained. Great location close to beaches and nice places to walk. No AC, but most days it wasn't an issue due to the wind off of the ocean. Would definitely rent this unit again!

Four adults (1 couple and 2 friends)traveled to Kauai to explore, play tennis and sketch. Makahuena was perfect for our plans. The tennis court was right outside our door and the pool and view of the ocean right in front of our balcony.Magnificent sunsets from the balcony. The condo was very clean, kitchen had all the basic needs in terms of pots and pans and eating utensils, salt and pepper. Very nice public living space. Beds very comfortable. That being said it was perfect set-up for a family with young children. The master bedroom was luxurious but the 2 back bedrooms were dark and small. The master bedroom also had a sliding "paper wall" separating it from the living room...not very private or quiet. The tennis court would greatly benefit from a wind shield. That being said, Makahuena was really a lovely stay for us. Great location, easy drive to restaurants, beaches, and surrounding towns.

Makahuena 2-203 Family Vacation

We stayed in unit 2-203 for 11 days in February, along with our kids and granddaughter, and had a great time. The unit is very spacious, and the location is great. Overall, this unit is an exceptional value for the money. The unit does not have air conditioning, but is well equipped with ceiling fans and regular fans. Honestly, we don't feel there was any need for A/C, as the ceiling fans and trade winds were more than enough to keep things cooler when sleeping at night. The unit is also well equipped with leisure equipment such as boogie boards, a surf board, beach chairs, etc. We have been to Kauai twice now, and feel that Poipu is the best location on the island from both a weather, and access, perspective. Vicki and Christine were also very good to deal with. I would definitely recommend this unit, and Poipu365, to anyone who wants to get away to a great location at a reasonable price.

Extended family including two kids. Loved the location, lanai, condition of unit (with two exceptions that I'll note below.) saw whales and a beautiful rainbow from the lainai. Newly remodeled with nice baths and kitchen, high quality everything. Comfortable beds. Wifi worked well, though a little slow. Tv setup was high-tech, with Netflix. Nice artwork. Two issues: power was out in the kids bedroom. Reported to Poipu365 at checkin. Could not be easily fixed and electrician couldn't get there until Monday. Monday came and went with no electrician. We checked out Tuesday. Property manager did bring extension cords so we could plug in the table lamp and fan in that room, which worked fine for our 3night stay. Bathroom fan is very loud and bothered the people living above us. Should be replaced and/or set on a separate switch, so it's not on with the light.

We were very happy with the condo overall. However, it was extremely hot when we were there (high 80s, low 90s) and none of the 3 ceiling fans in the 3 bedrooms worked well. 1 didn't work at all and the other 2 went very slowly producing no cooling effect. There were 2 standing fans which worked but REALLY needed to be cleaned. They were covered in rust and cobwebs and none of us wanted to touch them. Also our dryer wasn't working for half of our stay, and we had to carry all our wet laundry to our friend's condo on the other side of the complex. When the man came back to fix it the last time, he told us it actually did work on one of the settings, which would have been nice to know and saved us some time previously. Otherwise, the place was fully stocked with everything we needed. Additional items that would have been useful are tennis rackets and a beach umbrella.

As far as the heat, with all the hurricanes that were threatening to hit stealing our trade winds, that part was unexpected to us as well. Condos are not "our thing". We have 3 children that need space to run, but this condo was perfect for our week long stop in Poipu. Super clean, stocked and ready for the beach, 2nd story view of whales breeching and the swimming pool were all a wonderful welcome. Makahuena is not the Grand Hyatt, but it is a nice, laid back, family friendly place to soak in the sunshine, sandy beaches, salty air and amazing sunsets.

This is a great 3BR unit. It was very well outfitted, with lots of appliances, utensils, plates, condiments, etc. in the kitchen. There were also beach chairs and toys in the closet. The ocean view was adequate - unfortunately there is a building blocking the center 50% of what you see (between the pool and the ocean)
The master bedroom is separated from the ‘family room/kitchen’ area by a 3 panel sliding wall, that is constructed of a wood frame with plastic inserts (that look like Japanese paper). This was attractive, and allowed for you to look from the dining table through the bedroom windows to the ocean during the day. However if your group has different sleeping and waking hours, be aware that light and noise (including from the very large flat screen TV) will get through the sliding doors with no problem. If you don’t have light/noise being generated in the main rooms while people are sleeping in the master bedroom, then there is no problem.
The nearest beach we found was Poipu Beach. This is about .7 miles from the unit – a 15 minute walk or a 3 minute drive. There is plenty of parking immediately across from the beach park, lots of grass and lots of beach, including a very sheltered ‘kiddie’ pool.
Altogether we had a great experience at this condo and would use it again if we return to Kauai.

Extremely comfortable from the second we walked through the door. Well furnished, clean as a whistle and from the second you sit on the couch, or porch you feel at home. Almost impossible to look into the ocean from the Lani and not see a whale. Coffee definitely tastes better while standing on the porch in the morning.

We loved the condo. It was nice to sit on the lani in the mornings drinking coffee and watching the whales and dolphins swim by. The location was good and the condo was more than we expected.
The sprinklers going off at 1 in the morning just below the window was not fun. The pool was a nice touch, but if you have young kids that want to play, you might not be appreciated there. Ours weren't.
Overall great stay and place.
One thing that would make this place stand out would be to have a local gathering area to eat outside at a picnic table or something. When with large groups, it was hard to put everyone inside to eat.

My wife Joan and I were looking for the "right place" to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary on the island of Kauai. We celebrated our 10th anniversary in Hawaii island hopping and we were looking to stay in one place. We found it in the Makahuena Condo complex. The grounds were meticulous and the views were spectacular. Our 3 BR unit was beautifully maintained and decorated. Our only complaint was the noise from the remodeling of the unit below us during our stay.

Makahuena 2203 in Poipu actually exceeded our expectations in almost every way and we had a wonderful family holiday there. The property was beautiful and the pictures accurately depicted the suite. There were six adults in our party but the unit was so spacious that we never felt like we were falling over one another. The kitchen was well equipped and there were plenty of beach items (chairs, towels etc.)Every room had a ceiling fan and there were also a number of portable fans so we were always able to keep the unit at a pleasant temperature. I would not hesitate to recommend Makahuena 2203 and really hope we get the chance to stay there again in future.

Great time! Awesome island! Good location 5 minutes to breneckes beach and restaurant. Great place for kids. Pool and hot tub view from room. Pool was great for the kids. The sliding doors were off track in the bedroom of this unit and the kitchen sink faucet fell apart. The unit came with boogie boards, beach chairs and shovels and pails for the beach. Poipu 365 provide good service other than fixing the faucet in a timely manner. I would definitely stay here again.

The condo has everything you could possibly want and then some! From Blender to pannini press, all there. 4 Boogie boards and 4 beach chairs along with a good size cooler to take to the beach. The only point is that walking to the beach with all the stuff for 6 people was not doable. I would recommend a car.
My teenaged children enjoyed the pool and Netflix and WII and games :) thank you for a wonderful vacation.

We loved our stay at Makahuena 2203. The location was perfect, just a short walk from beaches appropriate for bodysurfing/bodyboarding, keiki beaches for our 4 and 6 year olds and a baby beach for our 1 year old. The condo had fresh orchids when we arrived and opened up to a beautiful ocean view. Whales and turtles regularly swam by the cliffs outside the property. The place is roomy and comfortable, and the kitchen was well-stocked with anything we needed. We used the beach toys and bodyboards and beach towels (mahalo!). Wifi was super easy too. We moved some stuff out of the way of the 1 yr old because he is starting to grab everything in reach, but overall very easy and would definitely come again. Thank you so much for sharing your home!

Beautiful condo. Very nicely decorated. Kitchen gorgeous. Liked the tile floors and showers were awesome. Three nice size bedrooms with big closets, nice bedding. No a/c but nice breezes. Would advise to shut the bamboo shades on west side while out during the day to keep the hot sun out. Recommend walking the dirt path, access from east side of parking lot, to watch sunrise in morning. Breathtaking. Also saw lots of whales and dolphins from this point as well as from the balcony in the condo. Walked a little further to the north and saw lots of turtles down on the rocky shore. Walk to sand beach, other direction, is more like 10 to 15 min, not 3 as advertised. Did see seal sunning on beach here. Awesome experience, only wished we could have stayed longer.

This is a great location, a busy condo complex, lots of people and noise, but walking distance from three of the best beaches on the south shore. We recently spent a week at Poipu Makahuena 365 and loved it! The decor is classy and tasteful with all tile floors, tiled showers,, granite kitchen, upgraded appliances, and even fabulous counter appliances. There is a keurig coffee maker, panini griddle, and smoothie blender just to name a few. Gorgeous bedding and plenty of towels are provided; even beach towels. There are boogie boards and sand toys, as well as beach chairs and a cooler. The patio view of the ocean is lovely with palm trees gently swaying in the wind, and sounds of the surf.
Some additional touches were the household items that were provided such as hand soap, dish liquid, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The wi-fi was a blessing as phone sevice is spotty in the area. We travel a lot, and this is a spectacular condo in a terrific location! It allows easy access to anywhere on the island, especially the main sightseeing areas, while giving you the secluded getaway that is harmonious with the peacefulness and tranquility of Kauai.

For context, I've got a family of five, three kids 7-4-2. We stayed in 2-203 for 8 nights. We will be back, we'll stay in this unit again, and for a longer duration.

I think the simplest compliment I can pay is that this unit felt to us like the owners had just stepped away, but were coming right back. From the fully furnished kitchen to the collection of DVDs, from the NINJA blender to the master bathroom with new tile shower, this place is a step above any vacation rental condo complex. It made you want to leave the place better than you found it.

Bedrooms
- master rocked. tons of light, view of the water, huge bathroom with incredible shower.
- two other bedrooms, one with a queen, the other with two twins. more than enough room. we had a crib delivered the day we got there and it fit fine in the room with the queen.

Kitchen (we cooked most meals in so this was key):
- fully stocked. i mean from the best tupperware selection to the panini maker to the coffee maker. auto ice maker, tons of ice cube trays.

General
- tons of linens, plenty of towels (beach and shower)
- 3 TVs, including a monster 55 inch flatscreen in the main room. DVD, Wii
- four boogie boards, and four nice beach chairs. we left some kids beach toys to "pay it forward"
- great lanai. the view is as advertised: gorgeous. you'll eat all your meals out here.
- pool is sparkling clean, 3.5 ft shallow, 8 ft deep end; hot tub is fabulous.
- the vibe at Makahuena is relaxed, kind, and very family friendly - totally "Aloha"

Two areas of feedback for prop mgmt
- the lock at the front door took a second to figure out. turn it all the way to the left to draw the latch so you can push the door open. this could be replaced pretty easily and i think it should.
- the dryer is new but something is wrong with the vents and clothes didn't dry. we flagged this to prop mgmt early on, and people looked at it the day we left. it's

Your comments are timely - the whole Makahuena complex was re-keyed right after you left solving the front door lock problem. The dryer was pulled away from the wall and the vent was the problem. The complex will clean their vents and that problem will be solved also! The owners are here now and further updating their unit! It will be even better when you return!

This unit has a pretty decent view of the ocean and is in a quiet location. It easily accommodated our party of 6.
Positives:
* There are useful items like beach chairs and a large cooler that were pretty nifty for going out to the beach
* The new tiles are pretty awesome (always a cool temperature to walk on, good grip)
* Lots of ice in the freezer for helping to fill up the cooler

Room for Improvement:
* The bedding in the 2 non master bedrooms could definitely be improved. They felt old, rough, and a bit ratty
* We had a rough time setting up the wireless internet and just ended up hard wiring in one of our laptops for any serious web browsing

Be warned that if you have Verizon, you likely will NOT have any data service in this unit!

All in all, nice place to stay for the price.

We stayed in the condo for a little over a week in October. The unit was beautiful and had room to spare for our group (4 adults, 1 child).

The condo was in great shape. Nice new tile floors, beautiful bathrooms and a nice kitchen. The owners also left a few niceties (beach chairs, board games, extra fans) and the massive TV was pretty nice too. The internet was handy and worked fine. We also thoroughly enjoyed the pool and hot tub and the walk to the beach (we usually drove with all of our stuff).

Some other family stayed in nearby condos and while some were a little newer inside, they weren't quite as nice and certainly didn't have the amazing view that this unit did!

The one downside is that we could occasionally hear people walking around upstairs. Not a big deal as we could use the extra fans to drown out the noise, and it really wasn't too loud to begin with.

We'll definitely stay here again. Thanks!
